Job Summary
The Program Cost Consultancy of AECOM is seeking a pragmatic, highly talented, and experienced Senior Cost Consultant to provide complete estimating and cost planning requirements throughout the project life cycle. The projects will include an inventory of private and public sector high-value, complex developments for new build, refurbishment, and fit-out across all sectors in residential, transportation, institutional, infrastructure, hospitality/leisure, and commercial projects. This will be based out of any of our Ontario, Manitoba or Alberta offices. We allow options for remote work as well.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Providing a full range of cost estimating activities to new and existing clients, including taking ownership of and presenting the final cost plan/estimate to include but not limited to the following:
  • Review and guide measurement of project statistics/functional areas.
  • Ensure completion of project descriptions and assumptions.
  • Complete design efficiency analysis, along with full trade and elemental take-off.
  • Prepare front-end cost reports to support cost estimates.
  • Complete estimating and cost planning requirements through pre-contract design phases.
  • Reconcile estimates with tenders, owner's budgets, and contractor's estimates
  • Providing independent review and analysis of construction activities
  • Post-contract cost management, including change order review analysis, lifecycle cost estimates, monthly cost reporting, and payment certification.
  • Ensuring that cost analysis, cost checking, and valuation work is managed effectively
  • Ensure that project goals/milestones/ budgets are met.
  • Taking a lead role in interfacing with the client and other consultants at all project stages
  • Coordinating with the MEP costing team, ensuring the deliverables are met.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Leading junior/intermediate cost consultants while performing day-to-day work activities.
  • Preparing and presenting cash flow and cost management advice to clients.
  • Interpreting and offering cost planning advice regarding the financial feasibility of projects.
  • Identifying any risk factors throughout the project.
  • Communicating about potential cost overruns and schedule delays.
  • Identify and implements process improvements.
Minimum Requirements
  • Must have at least a Bachelor's Degree and 6+ years of experience delivering pre-construction and post-contract construction cost services directly related to engineering and/or construction projects. A demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered if a candidate does not have this.
  • PQS required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A quantity survey/cost estimating background and demonstrate evidence of working at a senior consultant level.
  • Over 6 years of senior-level pre and post-contract construction cost estimating industry experience with strong knowledge and understanding of industry standards and guidelines e.g. CIQS standard method of measurement, elemental and trade, provincial lien acts, and CCDC standard contract conditions.
  • Ability to lead people and projects.
  • Also, anticipate, understand, and respond to clients' needs and strive to meet or exceed their expectations.
  • Deliver innovative solutions to keep the business moving forward.
  • As a critical collaborator, you can influence and inspire a cross-functional team, coach and mentor junior team members, and review and guide work products—the capability to plan and deliver multiple complex projects with competing priorities on time and within budget.
  • Highly proficient with SharePoint and MS Office.
  • Proven accuracy, reliability, and completeness in job accomplishment.
  • Interpret take-off architectural, structural, and civil drawings.
  • Knowledge of and experience using CostX will be an asset to this highly qualified applicant.
  • An effective verbal and written communicator who can clarify ambiguities and present information in a structured way.
  • Communicate delays and setbacks while managing expectations and retaining the client's confidence: excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrate a proactive, firm, and respectful approach to estimate reconciliation efforts.
