**Decision Support/Case Costing**

The Case Costing Analyst is accountable for facilitating and preparing LHSC’s case costing submission to the Ministry of Health, following the Ontario Case Costing Initiative (OCCI) and Ontario Hospital Reporting Standards (OHRS) and Management Information Systems (MIS) guidelines. This includes developing costing algorithms for each cost component, ensuring all required data is sourced, understanding limitations of available data, reconciling data across multiple systems, communicating quality issues to data source owners, and validating results of costing algorithms.

In addition, the Case Costing Analyst supports internal and external requests for case costing analysis, and advises on process changes to improve accuracy and completeness of available information.

**Responsibilities Include**:

- Data Management:_ Gathering, organizing, and maintaining accurate cost data from various sources, including electronic health records and financial systems.
- Cost Analysis: _Analyzing and determining the costs associated with various medical procedures, patient care, and healthcare services.
- Decision Support:_ Providing decision-making support to hospital management by offering cost-related insights, conducting scenario analyses, and participating in budget planning activities.
- Process Improvement: _Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvement initiatives that enhance cost efficiency without compromising patient care quality.
- Financial Reporting:_ Preparing comprehensive financial reports and presentations that highlight cost trends, variances, and opportunities for cost optimization.
- Collaborative Projects and Communication: _Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Decision Support Consultants, Decision Support Analysts, medical staff, finance, operations, and administration.

**Qualifications**:
**What you bring**:

- Successful completion of a four (4) year Undergraduate Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Health, Accounting, Business Administration or as acceptable by the hospital
- MIS Level 1 & Level 2 Certification - preferred
- Minimum five (5) years recent related experience
- Advanced computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite and corporate productivity tools (e.g. MS SQL Server, Tableau, Harris Affinity ADS)
- Proficient in data manipulation, aggregation, and interpretation using tools such as SQL, Excel, and data analytics platforms
- Ability to perform statistical analysis and draw meaningful insights from complex datasets
- Knowledge of data cleansing, data validation, and data governance best practices to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency
- Advanced financial analysis skills to accurately calculate and interpret the costs associated with medical procedures and patient care
- Intermediate knowledge of General Accounting principles & hospital G/L account structures****:

- Knowledge of healthcare terminology, medical coding systems (e.g., ICD-10, CPT), and healthcare reimbursement methodologies
- Knowledge of Ontario Costing Distribution Methodologies (OCDM), and Ontario Healthcare Reporting Standards (OHRS)
- Demonstrated effective communication skills
- Familiarity with business intelligence and data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI)
- Experience in a healthcare finance or costing role preferred
- Knowledge of medical coding and billing practices
- Intermediate knowledge of Ministry of Health hospital reporting requirements and standards (e.g., MIS, DAD, NACRS, OHRS, OCDM)
- Familiarity with process improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean) beneficial in identifying cost-saving opportunities and streamlining workflows
- Intermediate knowledge of LHSC clinical/business workflows and system knowledge (e.g. Cerner, InfoMed, etc.)
- Advanced ability in facilitation and influencing/leadership skills
- Intermediate knowledge of requirements gathering, analysis and troubleshooting skills
- Intermediate knowledge of technical documentation skills
