The Director of Energy Markets will focus on Alberta Energy policies incorporate Government strategic directions to achieve environmentally responsible energy and resource exploration and development while also reflecting the requirements and goals of the Ministry.

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Energy Information and Analysis Branch, The Director of Energy Markets provides leadership, direction and development to a team of professional analysts, that are responsible for monitoring and analyzing global, North American and regional energy market trends, developing energy price forecasts and analyzing upstream and downstream fundamentals to determine the demand for current and future markets for Alberta's energy resources.

This position will be required to Direct Energy Information and Analysis operations and initiatives to deliver outcomes in accordance with Ministry and Government business plans; leadership, coaching and mentoring are provided to the management team and staff members to support continual improvement and capacity development; and human and financial resources are effectively managed. You will be representing the Branch, Division and Ministry on cross-ministry, Government, inter-provincial, national and other committees, task forces and teams to facilitate decision-making; communicate, determine and respond to perspectives; determine trends and issues; and initiate and foster innovation.

Some of your key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Foster collaborative working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and provide expert advice and consultation, and ensure a consistent approach to the development of Alberta's energy and mineral resources is taken Identifying emergent energy markets trends and their importance for the Crown's interest. Identifying and prioritizing policy analysis and research requirements and identifying policy implications, and developing recommendations for consideration by senior Alberta Energy representatives. This position is delegated extensive freedom to develop and recommend innovative approaches to operations, determine strategies and set direction for programs.
