Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Packaging Line Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the proper operation and maintenance of all packaging equipment on our production line. This includes performing regular preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical issues, and working with other team members to ensure smooth and efficient production operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare the Padding machines and all auxiliary equipment for pre-operation start-up.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance on all packaging equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues on packaging equipment as needed.
- Conduct routine inspections of machinery to identify and address any potential issues before they impact production.
- Ensure that safety guards and E Stops are in place and in proper working condition.
- Ensure Lockout procedures are used as required by the lockout, tag out, and try out policy.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance shop and facility.
- Follow company policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with other team members to coordinate repairs and maintenance activities and ensure minimal disruption to production.
- Document all maintenance and repair activities in a detailed and accurate manner.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment for yourself and others.
- Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock levels, anticipating needs, placing orders, expediting deliveries, and verifying parts upon arrival.
- Stay up to date on the latest industry trends and technologies to make recommendations for upgrading or replacing equipment as needed.
- Ensure the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on all production equipment and support equipment, following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and SOPs.
- Provide a strong presence on the production floor, monitoring all equipment for safety and quality risks, as well as overseeing employees.
- Measure hourly KPIs of equipment performance to plan.
- Walk the production line and facility to determine needs and prioritize tasks effectively.
Job Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of mechanical experience in a high-speed packaging and/or manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in basic electrical and PLC knowledge.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret schematics.
- Capability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with frequent changes.
- Comprehensive understanding of Health & Safety regulations and Lockout Procedures.
- Meticulous attention to detail with a customer service-oriented approach.
- Strong team player with exceptional problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated willingness to support all departments as needed.
- Availability to work extended hours or weekends as required during the day shift.
- Flexibility to adapt to different shifts in the future based on business requirements.
Potential Hazards:
- Risks of lifting, pinching, crushing, burning fingers and arms.
- Potential for electrical shock.
- Hazards of slip, trip, and falls on the same level.
- Potential for eye injury.
- Dangers associated with plant forklift operation.
Safety Responsibilities:
- Recognize and report hazardous conditions promptly.
- Adhere to lockout procedures to ensure equipment safety.
- Ensure all safety devices installed on padding lines are functioning properly and well-maintained.
- Properly store all parts to prevent potential safety hazards.
- Conduct workplace inspections and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Recommend safety procedures and solutions for the overall safety of the plant.
