Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Branch Communications Officer will be responsible for engaging, supporting and working strategically with CMHA branches to identify opportunities to promote and enhance the CMHA brand. When communications opportunities are identified, this role will work closely with appropriate CMHA Ontario Division and branch staff to plan, create and execute strategic communications initiatives. This role requires a unique blend of project management skills and a deep understanding of effective communication practices.
The Branch Communications Officer is expected to work both independently and within a small team to provide the skills and expertise necessary to support CMHA Ontario's network of branches across the province. This entails using a range of integrated communications, public relations, and digital media initiatives.
Core Responsibilities
Project Planning and Execution:
- Develop and execute project plans, ensuring milestones are met on time.
- Coordinate and collaborate with internal teams to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
Communication Strategy:
- Develop comprehensive communication plans as needed that are aligned with project goals and organizational objectives.
- Craft clear and compelling messages tailored to diverse stakeholders, ensuring consistent messaging across all channels.
- Support CMHA branches with strategic communication direction and campaign creation for specific requests that include associated deliverables like brochures, pamphlets, posters and other communication collateral.
- In collaboration with others in the communications department, play a key role in overseeing the production and design of CMHA branch and CMHA Ontario annual reports which includes content development, editing, image sourcing, etc.
- Provide editorial expertise in the creation of a wide variety of products and content, including website copy, annual reports, marketing material and key message documents.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Branch Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with CMHA branches.
- Act as a liaison between branch teams and CMHA Ontario comms, providing regular updates and addressing concerns.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with CMHA Ontario's communications team, including senior advisors, digital strategist and designers, to plan, deliver and execute communications products across traditional and digital channels.
- Work with CMHA Ontario communications director and government relations lead when government relations opportunities arise.
- Foster a collaborative and communicative project environment.
Risk Management:
- Identify potential risks and challenges related to project delivery and communication strategies.
- Develop and implement mitigation plans to address challenges proactively.
Measurement and Reporting:
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for communication effectiveness.
- Provide regular reports on project progress and communication metrics to leadership.

Skills & Experience
- Minimum 4-5 years of communications experience preferably in non-profit, government, agency or corporate environment.
- Project management experience (Project Management Professional certification an asset)
- Exceptional writer and editor.
- University degree in English, Communications, Journalism or equivalent.
- Communications or journalism experience an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and to effectively collaborate in a team environment when needed.
- Experience engaging with internal audiences in a way that helps build connections and inspire a geographically diverse workforce is an asset.
- Must be confident, highly motivated and passionate about making a difference.
- Must have successful track record with developing strategies and techniques for communicating news and information in a way that informs and inspires.
- Bilingualism an asset.
- Experienced with design using Adobe Creative Cloud an asset.

Working Conditions
This is a full-time, regular (non-contract) position working standard office hours (currently 35 hours/week). This position is based in Toronto, Ontario. We are currently operating within a hybrid model, with colleagues working from the office 3 days/week and from home 2 days/week.
This position is also a desk job with extended periods of sitting, reading, telephone/virtual interaction, and working at the computer. This position involves some moderate lifting, shipping, and handling. Attendance at various meetings throughout the workday/workweek will be required; meetings may occur on short notice, depending on the circumstances.
This position is within the OPSEU Bargaining Unit.
As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to maintain and submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.

Salary: This position pays between $60,241.26 and $62,030.48 per annum, based on a 35-hour work week.
The salary within the grid for this role ranges between $60,241.26 at Step 1 and $67,726.73 at Step 5. The initial salary offered for this position is anticipated to fall between Step 1 and Step 2 of the salary grid as posted above.
