Bylaw Enforcement Supervisor

The District of North Vancouver is seeking a highly skilled Bylaw Enforcement Supervisor to join their team. As a key member of the Bylaw Services department, this role will be responsible for enforcing municipal bylaws and regulations, investigating complaints, and supervising a team of bylaw enforcement officers.
Key Responsibilities- Enforcement and Investigation: Investigate and process bylaw complaints, enforce regulations and bylaws related to unsightly premises, noise, streets and traffic, conservation, signs, nuisances, dogs, sprinkling, buildings, waste removal, and other related matters.
- Supervision and Leadership: Plan, assign, supervise, and review the work of a small group of employees engaged in municipal and streets and traffic bylaw enforcement and other bylaws as required.
- Policy Development and Administration: Prepare reports, maintain records, and correspondence related to the work performed, assist in the development of, and amendment to, the branch's policies and procedures.
- Court Proceedings: Gather evidence and appear in court as a witness for prosecutions as required, and swear information at provincial court.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration: Assist other departments in their enforcement of regulations and bylaws, explain and interpret bylaws and regulations to the public, and attend meetings as required.
- Public Relations: Respond to enquiries from the public by email, phone, or other communication methods, and deliver summonses and subpoenas on behalf of the District.
- Education and Experience: Completion of Grade 12, plus sound experience in inspectional and enforcement work, including some supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Knowledge and Skills: Considerable knowledge of the bylaws and regulations related to the work, sound knowledge of court procedures and legality of various types of evidence, sound knowledge of the geography and street locations in the District, and the ability to investigate complaints and enforce bylaws and regulations with tact, impartiality, firmness, and sound judgment.
- Qualifications: A valid BC Driver's License is required, and the ability to acquire and maintain a RCMP Reliability Security Clearance is required to work in the RCMP detachment.
- Competitive Salary: The pay range for this unionized position is $39.14 to $46.07 per hour (2024 rates).
