As a Trainmaster at Canadian Pacific Railway, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of traffic within our road territory and yard-terminal. You will be responsible for developing, organizing, and executing the daily yard-terminal/road operating plan, which includes arrival, classification, building, inspecting, and dispatching of trains. This position requires strong leadership skills, as you will be accountable for inputs and outputs of safety, service, productivity, and financial metrics.
Key Responsibilities- Operational Leadership: Ensure the safe and tactical execution of the Operating Plan through active supervision of operating crews, Yardmasters, support staff, and Assistant Trainmasters.
- Safety and Compliance: Accountable for inputs and outputs of safety, service, productivity, financial metrics, and adherence to corporate values, including compliance with regulatory environments.
- Train Operations: Accountable for the safe, on-time operations of all trains and contribute to the overall execution of the Local Service Operating Plan (LSOP) and Operating Plan.
- Efficiency and Productivity: Conduct efficiency tests, train rides, and safety-related activities to support a safe, efficient operation.
- Investigations and Corrective Actions: Accountable for investigating safety rules and policy failures, responding to and acting on safety, health, and environmental-related incidents, identifying causes, and implementing or recommending corrective actions or action plans.
- Team Management: Create and manage a strong team of employees, including determining optimal numbers, recruitment, and development.
- Policy and Procedure: Ensure compliance to CP's policies and collective agreements and recommend changes.
- Performance Metrics: Ensure the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance and financial metrics through maximum asset utilization.
- Inventory Management: Accountable for inventory management for terminals and line of road in their areas of responsibility.
- Rail Car Management: Accountable for rail cars that are idle for 24 hours or longer for any reason.
- Business Requirements: Accountable for a full understanding of business requirements, service commitments, and any service penalty conditions for customers in their geographic area.
