We're looking for an Intermediate Underwriter to join our growing Non-Standard Risks team. As an Underwriter in Non-Standard Risks for the Specialty Solutions team, you will develop a profitable portfolio of non-standard commercial and personal lines business with an emphasis on developing new business.

This is a fast-paced customer driven environment, your ability to work efficiently and establish strong internal and external relationships will be the key to your success.

This position is a full-time permanent opportunity and can be based in Dartmouth or Ottawa.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities daily
  • Analyze requests for quotes, renewals and policy changes, and recommend solutions
  • Rate and prepare quotes for new business and renewals
  • Handle policy transactions including renewals, endorsements and cancellations
  • Support brokers regarding underwriting and rating policies
  • Use negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company
  • Participate in broker visits, industry functions and marketing events
  • Provide ongoing support in expanding the department, and make recommendations for process improvements
  • As directed, generate letters and memos to brokers from the system
  • Support team members within Specialty Solutions as well as other divisions at Intact
  • Future travel may be required

Requirements:

  • University degree/College diploma or any combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in Personal or Commercial Lines Property Underwriting
  • Strong knowledge in Excel is an asset
  • Analytical, self-motivated and strive to deliver at a high standard
  • Initiative and ability to work under pressure
  • Strong team player, with outstanding collaboration and communication skills
  • Can develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers
  • Interested in and stay up to date on business trends or other developments impacting our industry
  • CIP designation or working towards it
  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada
