The Respiratory Therapist plays a vital role in the Cardio-Respiratory Department, performing duties as required by the Nova Scotia College of Respiratory Therapists' Scope of Practice and Institutional Policy and Procedure. This role involves assessments, implementation of treatment, evaluation, care planning, and education of patients requiring respiratory therapy. The Respiratory Therapist obtains a patient history and assesses the clinical significance of therapist-driven protocols related to respiratory therapy care. They conduct a full respiratory assessment, evaluate progress, adapt a treatment plan according to patient needs, and expected outcomes. The Respiratory Therapist implements a respiratory discharge plan.
Key Responsibilities- Assess patients' respiratory needs and develop treatment plans
- Implement and evaluate respiratory therapy interventions
- Provide education and support to patients and families
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive care
- Conduct respiratory assessments and evaluations
- Graduate of an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy, registered with the Nova Scotia College of Respiratory Therapists
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certified or willingness to obtain
- Current Heart & Stroke BCLS (Level C) Certification
- Member in good standing with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) preferred
- Successful completion of hospital-based certification and recertification procedures
Nova Scotia Health offers a competitive salary of $40.66 hourly, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, and a defined benefit pension plan. Successful candidates may also be eligible for a signing bonus and relocation assistance with a defined Return of Service contract.
