About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our Inpatient Psychiatry Unit at Fraser Health Authority.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide and coordinate the delivery of psychiatric nursing care services to patients, demonstrating nursing expertise and clinical leadership in evidence-based practices.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care of assigned patients, identifying actual or potential problems and strengths through nursing diagnosis.
  • Actively participate in and support the total therapeutic program of the Unit, collecting information from various sources to enable the provision of appropriate nursing care.
  • Communicate and consult with members of the healthcare team about patients' care, setting priorities, assigning, and delegating tasks to support staff.
  • Advocate for patients' rights to autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity, and access to information, promoting person-centered care that demonstrates empathy and sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • May require completion of a substance use certificate program.
  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing mental health and substance use client assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety-type interventions, including crisis intervention.
  • Knowledge of mental illness and substance use treatment, psychopharmacology, counselling, and group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with patients, families/caregivers, the public, medical staff, and members of the interprofessional care team.
