Job Summary

The Career Programming Strategist role at UBC Sauder School of Business supports students in becoming career-ready graduates by designing, coordinating, and delivering career development programs.

Job Description

The Career Programming Strategist is responsible for programming initiatives, including designing, coordinating, and delivering career development programs, both in the classroom and online. This role involves collaborating with partners and applying best practices in learning to boost student engagement and career readiness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Personal and Professional Development:
    • Leverages knowledge and expertise in instructional design and career development to design, deliver, and evaluate career development programs.
    • Identifies opportunities for students to critically reflect on their learning and connect it with other learning experiences.
    • Develops programming tools and templates, including lesson plans, marking rubrics, and course evaluations.
    • Manages the Learning Management System (Canvas) and other related platforms.
    • Manages the development and quality assurance of career content and resources.
    • Continuously evaluates and innovates learning tools, resources, and platforms.
    • Develops new career materials and provides career coaching and advising for students.
    • Provides facilitation and classroom support to career development classes.
    • Manages the operations of career development programming.
    • Supports the marking of student assignments.
  • Access to Business Community:
    • Contributes to expanding students' opportunities to engage with employers, alumni, and community.
    • Develops resources and tools to enable students to access, connect, and network with the business community.
    • Manages relationships with the business community to facilitate student learning and development.
  • Service Excellence:
    • Participates in the assessment and evaluation of career learning for students.
    • Trains employees, student employees, and volunteers.
    • Contributes to strategic planning processes and sets goals and priorities for the work.
    • Influences multiple stakeholders to create and set direction, persuade action, and achieve consensus.
    • Supports efforts to engage students, faculty, alumni, employers, and other stakeholders in career programming initiatives.
    • Fosters an inclusive and respectful learning environment.
    • Undertakes other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of three to four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated competence in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs, workshops, or events.
  • Experience using web-based platforms and instructional technology to teach and engage students.
  • Experience working with management to executive-level leadership in one or more of the areas of career coaching, recruitment, training, and learning development.
  • Knowledge of analytics required.
  • Experience of classroom facilitation or teaching to groups.
  • Knowledgeable about career trends in the changing world of work.
  • Experience in designing, developing, and evaluating career-related programs or workshops.
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience of Canvas or similar Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Demonstrated expertise in leveraging innovative learning technology.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, public speaking, and organization skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and within multiple team environments.
  • Ability to think strategically and exercise diplomacy, tact, and discretion.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct respectful consultation and collaboration with stakeholders.
