Nova Scotia Health provides sustainable safe and high quality health services that are accessible, people-centred, promote health and wellness and optimize the health of all Nova Scotians. This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community-based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

The Medical Affairs portfolio plays a key role in ensuring the quality of medical care provided by the physicians of Nova Scotia Health Authority. It does this through the management and stewardship of the medical staff governance structure, physician human resource management processes, physician leadership development, the negotiation and management of physician contracts, and the management of the credentialing and privileging process. The portfolio provides provincial support across all zones.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Physician Learning, Development and Support, and accountabilities to the Manager Learning and Development, the Instructional Designer, Physician Leadership, will be responsible for designing and developing engaging learning content and curriculum for medical staff. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in instructional design, e-learning development, LMS management and project management. The content created by the Instructional Designer will support Medical Affairs in providing impactful current and future non-clinical learning, development, and support opportunities to our medical staff.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Undergraduate degree in Education, Instructional Design/ Curriculum Development, Educational Technology, or comparable discipline.
  • Post-academic Graduate Certificate (or Diploma) in Instructional Design, Technology-Enhanced Learning and Design, Adult Education, or comparable discipline.
  • Minimum three (3) years' ID practice, preferably healthcare-related
  • Knowledge of current and emerging ID, online and online learning trends
  • Understanding and in-practice experience with the LEADS framework in a healthcare environment
  • Adult education and training
  • Learning and other ID-related theories
  • Digital literacy (diverse proficiency across multiple and different, simple to complex, instructional technologies)
  • Learning Management Systems
  • Script, web authoring and storyboard tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline)
  • Multi-media production tools (e.g., Audacity)
  • Mobile learning software/apps
  • Legislation (digital and non-digital applicable to ID)
  • Formative and summative evaluation (processes, data collection, analysis and distribution)
  • Organizational, project and time management (demonstrated ability to develop and manage multiple and concurrent ID projects of competing end deadlines)
  • Interpersonal and communication (in person, email, online, print, virtual, visual)
  • Facilitation (in person and virtual)
  • Microsoft Office, MS Teams, Sharepoint
  • Cultural competence reflected by incorporating Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Anti-Oppression, Social Justice, Truth and Reconciliation in one's work
  • Problem solving, including user technical resolution
  • Member (or leader role) with the Canadian Association of Instructional Designers and/or the Institute for Performance and Learning
  • Evidence of commitment to continuous learning about the evolving field of ID
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
