VISION:

At the Ontario Native Women's Association (ONWA), we celebrate and honour the safety and healing of Indigenous Women and Girls as they take up their leadership roles in the family, community, provincially, nationally and internationally for generations to come.

SCOPE:

Reporting to the Director of Research and Evaluation, the Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the research projects. They will manage the data collected through Indigenous women's knowledge, storytelling, and lived experience using various Indigenous methodology, and gender-based analysis. They will develop a workplan, funding proposal, and data governance framework to propose new data sources and methods to collect the data. The Project Manager will ensure the strategic priorities of short and long-term research projects align with ONWA's strategic picture. The Project Manager will oversee the accuracy of data collected through various research methods and provide recommendations to the Director of Research and Evaluation.

The Project Manager will manage and supervise the staff working on the data project. They will provide project management expertise to develop and implement project work plans, manage day-to-day project, operations, develop budgets, monitor expenses, and ensure that all project timelines and objectives are achieved in a timely manner. They will communicate with project teams, internal and external partners to achieve project outcomes. They will develop comprehensive reports for the Director of Research and Evaluation including actionable insights and recommendations to make informed decisions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A degree related to database/Project Management, Indigenous Learning, Public Health Administration, Epidemiology, or a related Social Sciences background with a minimum of five (5) years' experience in a supervising or management role. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of Indigenous methodologies and qualitative and quantitative research methodologies in relation to research and evaluation, performance measurement, and data governance with a focus on enhancing research outcomes and ensuring cultural relevance and sensitivity.
  • Knowledge of principles of Indigenous data sovereignty practices, OCAP training is an asset.
  • Understanding of the social determinants of health is an asset.
  • Proven working experience related to the use of statistical software for data analysis and data management.
  • Demonstrated expertise in project management, including the development and implementation of work plans, budget management, and monitoring of project objectives including project timelines.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial privacy standards for data collection and retention.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Experience in reporting and providing actionable insights and recommendations based on data analysis.
  • Strong leadership and supervision skills, with the ability to motivate and support staff in achieving project objectives.
  • Demonstrated effective administrative, leadership, and team managements skills.
  • Ability to propose new data sources and collection methods to improve research outcomes and address emerging challenges and opportunities.
  • Experience in creating comprehensive reports for senior management, including actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Excellent relationship skills to maintain positive relationships with funding partners and stakeholders to ensure project priorities align with the needs of Indigenous women and their families.
  • Project proposal writing and project development skills.
  • A demonstrated high level of written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management skills with the ability to establish and maintain credible relationships with senior management, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with project planning; to plan and manage programs/projects and support planning processes and reporting, including results based planning and annual plans.
  • Knowledge of Not-for-Profit organization program delivery and experience working with Indigenous governance structures and communities.
  • Strong awareness of issues affecting Indigenous women and their families and awareness of available community resources.
  • Solution oriented with proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability/willingness to travel.
  • Decision making skills to set standards and priorities and allocate time and resources.
  • Reliable vehicle, appropriate vehicle insurance coverage and valid Ontario "G" class driver's license.
  • Current, valid vulnerable sector criminal records check. Valid 1st Aid/CPR.
  • A cellular phone and internet access is required within this position.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible working from home arrangement if required. This may include a combination of virtual remote work in your home and in office arrangements. This will be based on operational needs and will be determined by the ONWA.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.
