We're seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Associate Physician to join our team. As a licensed physician employed by Nova Scotia Health, you will provide medical care under the supervision of a fully licensed physician. You will have clearly defined clinical duties within the Department of Urology in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.
About the OpportunityThe Associate Physician will be responsible for direct patient care activities under the supervision of an attending Urologist. Participation in the call schedule is required. You will report directly to Associate Physician Program Director or designate and indirectly to the Central Zone Executive Medical Director through the Director of Medical Affairs.
Clinical Responsibilities- Functions as a member of the Urology team, making regular rounds with supervising staff, fellows, and residents on the wards, the emergency department, and in the ICU.
- Works with attending staff, nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, social workers, physiotherapists, physician house staff, and other members of the health care team in the development and delivery of the overall patient care program.
- Communicates with patients, families, referring and family physicians concerning patient management plans.
- Performs and documents admission history and physical examinations, progress notes, discharge summaries, death certificates, medication reconciliations.
- Manages the day-to-day care of patients, including writing medical orders on charts and consultations of other services and responding to emergencies in hospital, in consultation with attending staff.
- Performs procedures within the scope of demonstrated competence, including insertion of peripheral intravenous lines, initiation of intravenous medication, taking blood samples for diagnostic purposes or arterial blood gases, insertion of Foley catheters, insertion of nasogastric tubes, assessment of surgical wounds, suturing of surgical wounds, removal of sutures, removal of surgical drains and nephrostomy tubes, and insertion/removal of central venous catheters.
- Assists in the operating room when on call or when no residents are available during the day.
- Arranges consultations with other departments/services for patient care and investigation.
- Follows through on investigations and arranges follow-up outpatient visits.
- Participates in Continuing Professional Development (educational sessions, tumor boards, and rounds) of at least 50 hours per year.
- Interacts with and orientates clinical clerks and PGY1's, new to the Urology Service.
- Participates in on-call responsibilities of the service.
We're looking for a highly skilled and dedicated individual who meets the following requirements:
- Must meet the requirements to obtain a Clinical Assistant License from The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
- CMPA coverage required.
- ACLS certification required.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Must be able to promote and maintain good interpersonal skills.
- Completion of the equivalence of a rotating internship. Postgraduate training and experience in urology or another surgical specialty is an asset.
- Physical demand - Must be able to sit, stand, walk and perform duties as outlined above.
- Mental and Visual demand - High; must be able to deal with stressful situations.
- Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred.
- Permanent, full-time, 96 hrs bi-weekly.
$65.81 Hourly
