Physician Associate

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Physician Associate to join our Cardiology team at Nova Scotia Health. As a Physician Associate, you will work under the supervision of a fully licensed physician to provide medical care to patients. This is a permanent, full-time position with a 96-hour bi-weekly schedule.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of an attending member of the Division of Cardiology, you will function as a member of the team in the Cardiology service at the level of a PGY1 or PGY2, making regular rounds with supervising staff.
- You will liaise with nurses, housestaff, attending staff, and other members of the healthcare team in the development of the overall patient care program.
- You will communicate with patients, families, referring and family physicians concerning patient management plans.
- You will perform and document admission history and physical examinations, progress notes, discharge summaries, death certificates, etc.
- You will manage the day-to-day care of patients, including writing medical orders on charts and responding to emergencies, in consultation with attending staff.
- You will perform procedures within the scope of your demonstrated competence and privileges, including the insertion of peripheral intravenous lines, initiation of intravenous medication, taking blood samples for diagnostic purposes, and insertion of Foley catheters.
- You will arrange consultations with other departments for care and investigation and follow through on investigations and arrange follow-up outpatient visits.
- You will attend educational sessions and rounds as time permits and interact with and orientate clinical clerks and PGY1s, new to the Cardiology Service.
- You will participate in on-call responsibilities of the service.
About You
- You must meet the requirements to obtain a Clinical Assistant License from The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
- You must have obtained (in writing) Review of Qualifications from The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia prior to application deadline.
- You must have CMPA coverage.
- You must have ACLS certification.
- You must have a good command of written and spoken English.
- You must be able to promote and maintain good interpersonal skills.
- Completion of the equivalence of a rotating internship and postgraduate training and experience in Cardiology are considered assets.
- You must be able to sit, stand, walk, and perform duties as outlined above.
- You must be able to deal with stressful situations.
- Competencies in other languages are an asset, with French preferred.
Hours
- This is a permanent, full-time position with a 96-hour bi-weekly schedule.
