LAND-BASE DETOX Night Attendant / Support

Supporting the Robinson Huron Treaty Area

Hours: Night Shift - Two Weeks In / Two Weeks Out.

Under the direction of the Lead Counsellor / Facilitator, the Night Attendant / Support attends all land base detox and treatment camps under Niigaaniin Services. The Night Attendant / Support provides support community members during the duration of the land base camps.

The Night Attendant / Support is responsible for providing continuous support to community members through the evenings as well as coordinating any required ongoing care with medical support and counsellors when absolutely necessary and outside of Night Attendant / Supports scope of practice.

Requirements:

  • It is preferred for the applicant to be a registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services, including Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First Nation,
  • Experience in a helping role, providing community members with support while tending to the fire through out the night,
  • College Diploma in an area of personal support i.e PSW would be an asset,
  • CPR level C & First Aid,
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment,
  • Must be Proficient in MS Office Applications, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and internet,
  • Must have a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check applicable to the responsibilities of this position and
  • Driver's license and access to a vehicle is required for transportation to and from camp sites.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Anishnaabemowin, culture and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Treaty,
  • Familiar with community services networks and knowledge the Niigaaniin Services would be an asset,
  • Requires minimum supervision, able to work independently and maintains a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and the communities,
  • All candidates must be able to work with a diverse population,
  • Ability to bend, pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs,
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment while working in a stressful environment,
  • Excellent teamwork skill to collaborate with other emergency services professionals,
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills to navigate challenging situation with community members, staff and other emergency services professionals,
  • Mental toughness to handle difficult situations,
  • Ability to think quickly and critically, especially when deciding the next course of treatment for community members,
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and make life-saving decisions in critical situations with community members attending detox and treatment camps,
  • Excellent observation skills and strong attention to detail when working amongst community members.
