We are looking for qualified Heavy Duty Mechanics to join our Mobile Maintenance Team. These candidates could be subject to a wage premium. Applicants should include a copy of their trade qualifications or certificates in their resume.

Main Accountabilities
  • Perform safety interactions and complete field level risk assessments before task commencement. Participate in Job Hazard Analysis as required.
  • Attend and participate in daily safety toolbox talks, periodic safety meetings, routine and statutory safety inspections, and planned task observations.
  • Participate in the development of safe work procedures and promote safety, health, and environmental awareness.
  • Comply with Baffinland and Equipment manufacturer’s procedures diligently while performing all tasks without incident.
  • Report hours worked and complete detailed service reports accurately and on time.
  • Use SAP software to document work performed, order parts, check inventory, and monitor equipment history.
  • Monitor Mobile Maintenance equipment and infrastructure to ensure safe use and advise on areas requiring improvement.
  • Perform unplanned and planned maintenance tasks as assigned and document task completion appropriately.
  • Perform pre PM/intervention inspections of equipment and ensure all safety systems are operating correctly.
  • Communicate with maintenance planners and supervisors about task progression and provide accurate equipment information.
  • Advise and implement corrective measures to achieve desired plan results.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for continuous improvement of maintenance processes.
  • Communicate effectively within the department and with all other departments and contractors.
  • This position involves shift work to cover continuous operations (Days/Afternoons or Nights).
Main Qualifications
  • Heavy Equipment Technician – Off Road / Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic with 5 or more years of field maintenance experience in an open pit mining environment.
  • Welding and fabrication experience with an emphasis on equipment maintenance best practices.
  • Extensive experience troubleshooting, repairing, and performing maintenance activities on various heavy equipment.
  • Proven track record in safe work practices and quality workmanship.
  • Motivated, hard-working with a professional attitude and the ability to work alone in remote areas.
  • Focused, energetic, and organized with superior attention to detail.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostics, and defect identification skills.
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and interpret technical documents.
  • Language: Speak, read, and write English (Inuktitut is an asset).
  • Certification to operate forklifts, skid steers, and large cranes is highly regarded.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Experience with mentoring apprentices.
  • Physically fit to perform all aspects of the job.
