**Occupational Therapist Job Description** **Summary:** Provide occupational therapy services to clients with complex mental health and substance use challenges, utilizing evidence-based approaches and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.

As an Occupational Therapist with BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services, you will play a vital role in supporting clients with complex mental health and substance use challenges. You will work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to assess clients' needs, develop and implement individualized treatment plans, and provide education and counseling to clients and their families.

  • Assess clients' needs and develop individualized treatment plans, considering their personal context, goals, interests, needs, safety, environment, and resources.
  • Collaborate with clients, caregivers, and other healthcare providers to plan and implement occupational therapy services, ensuring that clients' occupational performance issues are addressed.
  • Implement occupational therapy services using diverse intervention approaches, engaging clients in activities associated with occupational roles and goals, and assessing and modifying implementation as needed.
  • Use knowledge and skills in professional practice to independently manage a complex caseload, coordinating care for clients and working with interdisciplinary teams to identify and utilize community supports and agencies.
  • Provide education and counseling to clients and their families regarding functional and rehabilitation issues, and provide information and guidance to other caregivers, healthcare providers, and community agencies.
**Qualifications:**
  • Baccalaureate in Occupational Therapy.
  • Two years' recent, related experience working in a psychiatric setting with individuals who have complex mental health and addictions issues.
  • Current full registration with the College of Health & Care Professionals of BC.
  • Eligible for membership in the College of Health & Care Professionals of BC.
**Skills and Knowledge:**
  • Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness.
  • Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation methodology.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act as it applies to the rights and obligations of clients and staff.
  • Knowledge of community, social, and mental health resources.
  • Ability to identify emotional, social, or environmental barriers and intervene to eliminate stigma.
  • Ability to effectively manage conflict situations and aggressive behavior and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioral management techniques.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments related to Indigenous reconciliation.
