Senior Manager, Competitive Intelligence

Job Summary

The Sr. Manager, Competitive Intelligence (CI) plays an essential role as an unbiased advisor to executives and senior leaders at Equinix, helping positively influence and shape strategic decisions. The CI team deploys sentinel-like vision, providing advanced warning of emerging risks and identification of key growth opportunities where Equinix may be able to capitalize. The Sr. Manager, CI will continuously analyze external market and competitive dynamics based on relevance and potential impact to Equinix, as a means to drive continued market leadership in our core business and successful expansion into high growth segments. This individual will also collaborate broadly with other strategy and intelligence leaders across the company to ensure the proper dissemination and meaningful use of CI insights.

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with Equinix senior leaders to influence corporate planning processes and deliver actionable recommendations across broader strategy, M&A, product, and go-to-market
  • Develop market evolution hypotheses and anticipate competitive dynamics. Help Equinix get out in front of the competition, counter top competitor moves, and effectively prioritize market selection and adjacency expansion
  • Develop and manage a range of intelligence assets, from earnings analysis to in-depth competitive studies, market landscape assessments, and data-driven dashboards
  • Proactively monitor top 15 competitors and develop competitive analyses to support quarterly presentations to the Board of Directors, BU leadership, et al. Compare and contrast Equinix products/services and use cases vs the competition to identify differentiation and advantage
  • Track key market trends, predict high impact changes, and develop opportunity assessments across Equinix served markets, tier 1 and 2 adjacencies to further our strategic control points
  • Consistently innovate and design new visualizations, frameworks and content to uplevel the competitive program and align with the needs of our internal stakeholders

Leadership Requirements

  • Stakeholder Engagement: forge strong relationships with business leaders to understand primary strategies and pain points, become a trusted advisor, and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure competitive content is strategically aligned and impactful
  • Research Mindset: consistently build knowledge with an eye on leading edge technologies and critical paradigm shifts. Continuously look for gaps and opportunities to help move the needle. Develop exceptional technical depth and competence to explain and debate at the architectural level
  • Storyline and Recommendations: translate complex business questions and synthesize external and internal research into strategically impactful recommendations for executive audience. Create aha moments to spur the right actions and discussions
  • Executive Presence: capable of articulating recommendations clearly, handling objections, and switching between big picture thinking and detailed requirements to influence the right outcomes
  • High Emotional Quota: lead by example, exhibit respect and kindness for all, and embrace the exceptionally positive culture or "magic of Equinix"

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of demonstrated success in an insights-related role at a leading technology company, top market research firm or management consultancy
  • Required background in Cloud Network & Security, Cloud IaaS, or Hybrid Cloud
  • Bachelor degree from top tier university; MBA, graduate degree preferred
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills. Precision PowerPoint development, attention to detail, and financial modeling required

  • Colorado, Nevada, Rhode Island: $139,000 to $237,000 per year

Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.
