Public Works Mechanic

Job Details

We are looking for highly motivated, service-focused individuals with a strong commitment to teamwork to join our team of Mechanics in the Public Works Division.

The Public Works Mechanics will perform a wide range of maintenance and preventative maintenance activities including repair and maintenance of cars, buses, dump trucks, tractors, loaders, graders, snow clearing equipment, construction equipment and small engines.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a current Truck and Coach Service Technician Certificate and have experience repairing all types of equipment including: buses, heavy-duty trucks, heavy-duty equipment and light duty vehicles. Preference will be given to candidates with other job related certifications including: Automotive Service Technician. Must hold a valid Ontario Vehicle Operator's Permit Class "G", although a Class "D" Operator's Permit with a "Z" endorsement would be considered an asset. Work experience welding and body repair would also be beneficial. Requires proven interpersonal and communication skills and is able to work well with others.

Candidates must be able to complete various work forms, prepare simple written reports and have basic computer skills. Applicants must have a supply of hand tools, and be able to perform the physical demands of the position.

Note: This position will involve shift work including days, nights and weekends.

Compensation

Hourly Rate: $41.02

Note: A shift premium will also be applied to eligible shifts. Also includes a competitive comprehensive benefit package with 100% Employer-paid premium, in addition to a defined benefit Pension Plan through OMERS and a $600 tool allowance payable each calendar year.
