Irrigation Lead

The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a skilled Irrigation Lead to join their team As the Irrigation lead, you will assume a leadership role in operating and conducting routine maintenance on irrigation systems, spray parks, drinking fountains, and other small park water systems. Responsibilities include coordinating and executing various mechanical repairs, as well as assisting subordinate technicians in troubleshooting complex operational issues. As the Lead you're also involved in overhauling and rebuilding controls, reviewing and contributing to irrigation system layout and design plans, providing estimates for related costs and installation schedules, and evaluating quotes from contractors. Additionally, you are accountable for inspecting and supervising work conducted by contractors and subordinate technicians, exercising significant independent judgment and action in carrying out maintenance and repair tasks.

If you have the following characteristics and qualifications, we want to hear from you

  • Completion of Grade 12 (or equivalent), supplemented by technical training and courses related irrigation systems work plus considerable related experience. Or a combination of related training and experience as deemed suitable by the employer.
  • CIT level 1 and 2 Certification, plus experience/courses in electrical trouble shooting.
  • Valid BCWWA Cross Connection Control Tester certificate.
  • Utility locator certificate is an asset.
  • Considerable knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of automatic irrigation and others water feature systems.
  • Proven experience of two years or more as a supervisor leading a crew.
  • Sound knowledge of the hazards and of the safety precautions applicable to the work.
  • Ability to perform daily on-site works to excavate, install, repair and maintain underground irrigation systems, spray heads, drip irrigation, valves and other watering devices and systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret and maintain a variety of plans, records, maps, and data related to the work.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all conditions, including inclement weather, and to perform physical and manual labour.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials used in the work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a wide variety of internal and external contacts, to establish and maintain effective liaison and working relationships and to employ contemporary service excellence principles.
  • You must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
  • The successful applicant will be required to pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check.
