We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Officer to join our Photometry and Spectrophotometry (P&S) team at the Metrology Research Centre. As a Technical Officer, you will be responsible for the maintenance of an optical spectroscopy laboratory and supporting routine optical characterization measurements.

About the Team:

The P&S team is a dynamic and collaborative group that conducts cutting-edge research in optical spectroscopy. Our team is committed to excellence and innovation, and we are looking for a talented individual who shares our values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and validate P&S equipment, electronic and computer systems
  • Perform assembly and installation of general lab optics and mechanical equipment
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and validate performance of custom high precision optical instrumentation
  • Design and construct custom equipment for specialized applications
  • Assist in the preparation of functionalized surfaces suitable for sensor applications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or College Diploma in Physics or Engineering with emphasis in optics
  • Significant hands-on experience in advanced optics and optical instrumentation
  • Significant hands-on experience in programming and computer interfacing
  • Experience working in a scientific laboratory or testing facility
  • Experience in electronics and mechanical design
  • Experience working independently on simultaneous projects

Competencies:

  • Solid and practical knowledge of optics, optical components, optical instruments and optical equipment
  • Solid and practical knowledge in electronics, vacuum, gas handling and computer control of experiments
  • Practical knowledge of safety practices for working with compress gases, cryogenic fluids and electrical, mechanical and vacuum systems
  • Ability to setup and align optical components, lasers and other equipment
  • Ability to maintain, repair, assemble, troubleshoot and test electrical, optical, vacuum, mechanical, cryogenic and computer equipment
