What is the Opportunity?

Royal Bank of Canada is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join its Capital Markets Platform Financial Control team as a Director, Wholesale Platform Finance Leader. This is an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking and results-focused leader to lead a talented team responsible for financial reporting and controls across the Wholesale Platform.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in financial control and reporting, with experience in leading teams and managing complex financial processes. They will be responsible for overseeing the financial close cycle, managing the internal control and governance framework, and establishing the team as a key platform financial control conduit for regional and global functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of accounting and finance professionals responsible for financial reporting and controls across the Wholesale Platform.
  • Oversee the financial close cycle, including the timely and accurate reporting of monthly and quarterly results.
  • Manage the internal control and governance framework, including setting standards for key control activities and optimizing SOX and non-SOX processes.
  • Establish the team as a key platform financial control conduit for regional and global functional teams.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders, including Product Control, Performance Management, IT, Risk Management, and Accounting Policy.

Requirements

  • CPA designation or equivalent, with 8+ years of experience in financial control and reporting.
  • Strong team and people management abilities, with experience in leading teams and managing complex financial processes.
  • Curiosity to explore better ways of working and motivating the team, while maintaining a strong governance mindset.
  • Ability to multitask and handle high-pressure executive-level requests on an ongoing basis.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to influence stakeholders and mobilize cross-functional groups to deliver on common goals.
  • Superior organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to consistently exercise independent thought and judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent project management skills, with experience in managing complex financial projects.
  • Experience in complex wholesale business activity, including a thorough understanding of Capital Markets businesses and transactions, and associated risks and returns.
