Respiratory Therapist I, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) job description at BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver, BC.
We are seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist I to join our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) team at BC Children's Hospital. As a key member of our team, you will provide high-quality patient care and work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and document patient responses and outcomes.
- Set up, check, and operate respiratory equipment, ensuring proper function and quality control.
- Initiate, monitor, and assess ventilator-dependent patients, making adjustments as needed.
- Administer individualized medical gas therapies and provide invasive and non-invasive cardio-pulmonary monitoring.
- Evaluate patient responses during testing, therapies, and treatments, making changes as necessary and recording data on patient charts.
- Respond to cardiac arrests and other emergency situations.
Qualifications and Certifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy.
- Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care examination.
- Current and continuing registration with British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT) and the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT).
- Current Basic Life Support certification.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification.
Skills and Experience:
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Knowledge of and ability to operate respiratory-related equipment.
- Awareness of and commitment to Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism principles.
