ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Accounting Team Lead, the Accountant is a key member of the Finance team, whose scope of responsibilities primarily is to ensure the accurate recording and processing payments and resolving discrepancies.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable

General:

  • Process purchase invoices and payment requests in a timely manner through Sage AP Automation software.
  • Manage all outgoing payments for the agency, including cheques, E-transfers and EFTs.
  • Coordinate and obtain appropriate approvals and signatures for payment processing, according to Bissell's Financial policies and procedures.
  • Review vendor statements to ensure all invoices are received and processed for payment, liaise with vendors by ensuring enquiries are resolved in a timely basis, maintaining a good relationship.
  • Process and manage agency employee expense claims bi-weekly.
  • Develop and maintain accounts payable processes and ensure they are up-to-date and documented.
  • Completion of month end duties by their reoccurring due dates.
  • Develop and sustain effective and professional relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Process and manage payments for EFAN partner organization.
  • Maintain accurate filing of accounts payable documents.
  • Participate in the annual audit by pulling samples and support requested by the auditors.
  • Assist Accounting Team lead and accounting Manager with various reporting and funding requirements.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide back-up support and coverage for Accounts Receivable Accountant role when they are away.
  • Other duties and projects as requested by Finance leadership.
Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
  • Diploma or Degree in Finance or Accounting and/or three years of experience in accounts payable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, specifically Excel
  • Experience with Sage 300 and Sage AP Automation software is an asset
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail
  • Exceptional communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively
  • Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to build relationships and trust quickly
  • High level of professionalism with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent critical thinking capabilities to troubleshoot and resolve conflicts

  • Software Usage Proficiency: Intermediate Microsoft Office capability, specifically Excel and Outlook.

Conditions of Work
  • Flexibility of the working day is inherent in the position. Hybrid work model can be discussed; however, several of the responsibilities must be done onsite to ensure financial controls are met.
  • Use of personal vehicle will be required; however, mileage will be paid on work related use.
  • Community Safety Walk participate is a Bissell wide procedure that all positions take part in.
