Director, Business Development, International Private Banking

What you will be doing:

The Director is responsible for expanding the reach and capabilities of the Private Banking business globally at Scotiabank. They will drive strategic business objectives to boost International Private Banking's business by maximizing revenue potential, identifying new trends, analyzing markets and competitors, prioritizing opportunities for current and potential markets, creating business plans to capitalize on these opportunities, ensuring timely and efficient implementation.

  • Develop strategies to increase revenues, decrease costs, expand the business, optimize resources, and ensure long-term profitability.
  • Identify and pursue new market opportunities, build necessary strategic partnerships.
  • Propose internal and external alliances to enhance IPB capabilities and competitive advantage.
  • Manage cost structure assessments, pinpoint cost-cutting opportunities, optimize expenses.
  • Conduct market research, gather client feedback, collaborate with teams to drive innovation, analyze data for growth opportunities.
  • Lead strategic planning, set ambitious goals based on growth opportunities, develop metrics to evaluate success, track implementation.
  • Research new technologies in Private Banking, assess their impact on business growth.
  • Support the implementation of Private Banking Value Proposition and Wealth Lending strategies efficiently.

The role demands dynamic leadership, intellectual curiosity, and an entrepreneurial mindset to drive business expansion and profitability in Private Banking across the IWM footprint.

Client centric focus

  • Build expert knowledge of major clients, markets, competition, economic factors.
  • Identify client acquisition opportunities, enhance client relationships across the IPB footprint.
  • Utilize deep market knowledge and relationships within the private banking sector for business development goals.
  • Engage Marketing and Relationship Management teams to enhance client satisfaction and grow in the marketplace.
  • Drive a performance-driven and client-centric culture to expand the IPB business.

P & L Management

  • Contribute to the growth of IPB through annual planning, sales goals, client growth and retention.
  • Develop multi-year plans for IPB client base growth, based on segmentation data, market/economic conditions, and competitive positioning.
  • Lead cost optimization strategies aligned with business objectives.

Business Plans

  • Orchestrate IPB business plans emphasizing profitability, cost management, and timely implementation.
  • Collaborate with relevant partners for successful plan execution.
  • Analyze market trends, understand client needs, competition, regulatory changes.

Product Development and Innovation

  • Identify product development opportunities and implement growth strategies.
  • Conduct market research, collaborate internally and externally for business innovation.
  • Support business plans and initiatives across IPB footprint for enhanced service offering and pricing models.
  • Assess new business opportunities and analyze market trends.

Talent Management

  • Create an efficient operational environment, ensure business controls are effective.
  • Build a high-performance team, attract, retain, and motivate team members.

Leadership and Governance

  • Ensure superior client service, maintain efficient operations.
  • Review new business, ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Familiarity with relevant AML/ATF regulations.
  • Review customer transactions, submit required AML/ATF reports.
  • Provide AML/ATF training, participate in necessary assignments.

Required skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of Private Banking and Wealth Management products and services.
  • Experience in developing, managing, implementing complex business plans.
  • Understanding of PB markets, business and political environment.
  • Proven leadership in customer-oriented environments.
  • Strong organizational and self-management skills.
  • Exceptional presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to stay updated on financial services industry trends.
  • Pro-active, self-starter with exemplary leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams effectively.
