Psychologist - Correctional System

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, treat, assess, and evaluate clients
  • Facilitate weekly group therapy sessions
  • Administer, evaluate, and interpret psychological tests
  • Complete clinical assessments to determine treatment needs and write risk assessment reports
  • Plan and lead research and program-evaluation projects
  • Provide supervision and training to junior staff
  • Consult with the multidisciplinary team
Requirements Mandatory

You must be a registered psychologist in good standing to practice independently or in supervised practice in Ontario.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills
  • Proven knowledge of psychology, including psychotherapeutic and assessment techniques
  • Knowledge of clinical or forensic psychological theories, practices, and procedures
Communication and Relationship Skills
  • Effective communication of assessment and treatment information
  • Motivational interviewing skills to encourage clients to use mental health services
  • Strong working relationships with multidisciplinary teams and community agencies
Analytical and Organizational Skills
  • Ability to find the most appropriate diagnostic approach
  • Evaluation of treatment and rehabilitative programs
  • Use of good judgment when working with confidential information
  • Organization, planning, and coordination of psychological services
