Civil Superintendent

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead by example, demonstrating operational excellence in all phases of construction project execution.
  • Guide and develop direct reports, forepersons, and staff members in project planning and execution.
  • Proactively coach and develop direct reports, providing training, development goals, and facilitating performance reviews.
  • Prioritize team member cohesion, collaboration, and communication to drive project success.
  • Collaborate with management and field staff on all aspects of the job, ensuring seamless execution.
  • Review and approve time sheets, job costing reports, and equipment utilization to optimize project profitability.
  • Coordinate with forepersons to ensure efficient equipment utilization and material requisitions.
  • Create and manage 3-week look-ahead schedules, including crew and equipment allocation.
  • Work with leadership and project managers to develop long-term schedules and drive project success.
  • Review production progress with forepersons and site leaders to identify areas for improvement.
  • Report regularly to the General Superintendent on construction schedules, stakeholder issues, and potential solutions.
  • Communicate hiring needs to the General Superintendent and implement best practice construction methods.
  • Delegate, supervise, and assign work to staff members, allocating crews to foremen as needed.
  • Propose budget recommendations in partnership with project managers and the General Superintendent.
  • Effectively manage internal and external conflicts, solving complex construction problems and assessing operational risks.
  • Promote Hall Constructors' culture among work colleagues, departments, and job sites.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive leadership experience in civil construction, trades, or a relevant field.
  • Post-secondary training in a relevant field, considered an asset.
  • Gold Seal, PMP, or equivalent designation, considered an asset.
  • Experience with HCSS and Sitedocs, an asset.
  • Proven, progressively senior experience demonstrating operational excellence across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment, an asset.
Technical Skills:
  • Strong leadership in construction operations.
  • Identify specific needs of owners and stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Read and understand blueprints, specifications, and schedules.
  • Read and understand job costing reports.
  • Resource allocation to meet construction schedules and complete projects on time and on budget.
  • Monitor project and people performance to identify efficiency issues and propose solutions.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Ability to drive process improvements.
  • Excellent project management and operational execution skills.
Interpersonal Skills:
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and lead team members.
  • Proactively liaise with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Possess strong leadership competencies to direct and execute project planning and execution.
