About the Role:
As a Mountain Adventure Educator, you will lead groups of students and adults on educational programs focused on our Refuge for Endangered Wildlife. You will share your passion for the outdoors and teach curriculum in a beautiful natural setting. Your approach should be consistent with Grouse Mountain's goals, values, and policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver and lead educational experiences that are energetic, fun, and engaging for people of all ages.
- Follow a detailed schedule and timeline to ensure synchronicity with multiple groups around the mountain.
- Recognize and address concerns or needs of groups or guests, and liaise with managers and other departments as needed.
- Consistently offer professional and engaging leadership for all age groups and backgrounds.
- Set up and take down equipment, maintain cleanliness of areas used, and arrive fit for work.
- Act as a role model for guests in sustainable living and inspire awareness and nature curiosity through your actions and teachings.
Requirements:
- Post-secondary courses in Education, Environmental Management, Outdoor Recreation, or related fields.
- Experience and/or qualifications in at least 2 of the following areas: Outdoor Education, First Nations, Wildlife/Ecology, Physical Education, Health/Wellness, Sustainability, Tourism, Experiential Education, leadership.
- Awareness and sensitivity towards British Columbia's rich First Nations history and culture.
- Ability to safely lift 40 pounds repetitively for set-up of equipment.
- Physical and mental endurance to stand for long periods, hike, or snowshoe for 2 hours at a time.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with French, Spanish, Mandarin, and/or other languages an asset.
Working Conditions:
Hours of operation are weather-dependent, and this position requires flexibility in terms of work schedule. Must be available to work consistently 2-3 days a week, with daytime/school hours, occasional weekend and evening shifts required. Shifts involve standing for long periods, lifting, twisting, shoveling, and other manual tasks, which may be conducted outside in all weather conditions.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Starting at $18.40/hour up to $21.52/hour.
