Houselink and Mainstay Community Housing (HLMS) is Toronto's largest non-profit supportive housing provider. Our organization is the result of a recent amalgamation between the former Houselink Community Homes and Mainstay Housing.
As a joined organization, we currently manage nearly 53 residential locations and more than 1,100 units across the City of Toronto, serving individuals with complex mental illness and addictions. We work closely with sector partners to deliver programs and advocate for solutions that will address homelessness.

Hiring Rate: $54,963.27 Annually
35 hours weekly
Hours of employment are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

1. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Specific Accountabilities
  • Work with tenants through TPAC to identify and address issues, access resources and seek opportunities for collaboration.
  • Participate in and represent the organization at external committees and forums.
  • Participate in internal committees and/or activities relating to the organization.
  • Produce a quarterly magazine of material written and edited by the tenants and published at least three times a year. As well, work with the staff to produce a monthly tenant newsletter of events, activities, and relevant information
  • Work on leadership development activities with identified members.
  • Maintain statistics, files, time sheets, and regular reports.
  • Liaise and develop working relationships with grass-roots community-based groups.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and papers on specific topics of interest to the tenants, the Program Manager, the Senior Director of Tenancy, Executive Director, and the Board of Directors. May be asked to research issues.
  • Provide rights-based education.
  • Encourage tenants to play an active role in civic life.
  • Advocate and participate in forums and other activities (such as writing to or meeting with elected officials) that attempt to influence government policy as it affects people with mental health and addiction issues.
  • Perform other tasks as required

Financial, Administrative & Office Management:
  • Provides administrative support and liaison to an external social action committee including tracking and disbursing expenses.
  • Prepares and submits own travel and expense sheets monthly.
  1. ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Be knowledgeable about and act within relevant legislation including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Residential Tenancies Act (RTA), Mental Health Act, the Child and Family Services Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Social Housing Reform Act, and income support legislation, well versed in the principles of recovery and harm reduction.
  • Participate in and represent the organization at external committees and forums as assigned
  • Participate in internal committees and/or activities relating to the organization (e.g. staff, annual general meeting, social recreational events, etc.).
  • Keep the manager informed and up to date on relevant issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Programs or Senior Leadership.

  • Has strong organizational and time management skills
  • Has knowledge of housing, homelessness, income support and poverty issues
  • Has experience in electronic record keeping, and file maintenance and data collection Knowledgeable regarding political process and relevant issues which affect the lives of marginalized communities
  • Has experience in community development and networking
  • Has knowledge of diverse cultural issues as they relate to the membership
  • Has the ability to share information and transfer knowledge effectively
  • Has a knowledge of government structures and decision-making processes
  • Has strong computer skills including email, word processing, social media, publishing and graphic design software, and the Internet
  • Strong research skills
