The salary range for this position is CAD $47.31 / hour.
The Dental Hygienist works as part of a Public Health team and is responsible for dental health prevention and promotion services for communities in the assigned areas. Key responsibilities include:
• Provides leadership and takes responsibility for the operation and coordination of the regional dental programs in the assigned areas.
• Identifies targeted groups and develops community strategies to meet dental health needs.
• Teaches dental health lessons and conducts demonstrations in community settings.
• Provides direct service delivery by performing dental health surveys, screenings, counselling, referrals, and follow-ups for individuals in community dental programs.
• Identifies and assists high needs children and their families through assessments, counselling support, and referrals.
• Provides self-applied or other preventative materials, within legislated scope of practice and supervision guidelines.
• Acts as a resource to the community, including Public Health staff, for dental information.
• Develops strategies for public health initiatives for universal and targeted populations.
• Provides preceptorship and mentorship experiences for dental hygiene and certified dental assistant students.
• Participates in orientation and mentoring to new health professionals and provides feedback as requested on individuals' progress and promoting optimal support for clients.
• Develops appropriate educational materials and coordinates and participates in the delivery of universal and targeted educational programs.
• Represents the Dental Team on local, regional, and provincial committees, as required.
• Completes and submits funding applications, as appropriate; and provides input into the preparation and planning of dental budget including treatment funds.
• Participates in research projects and surveys, as appropriate.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
• Diploma in Dental Hygiene from an accredited School of Dental Hygiene.
• Current practicing registration with the College of Dental Hygienists of British Columbia.
• Three years' recent, related experience in general dental hygiene practice including one year's recent, related experience in dental hygiene in a community/public health environment.
• Valid BC Driver's Licence and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Knowledge of and ability to apply current teaching and motivational methodology.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals, groups, and interdisciplinary teams using health promotion principles.
• Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to operate a computer and other related office equipment.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
