Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at BC Cancer in Abbotsford. As a key member of our oncology clinic, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to our mission of delivering comprehensive cancer control for the people of British Columbia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for examination by escorting them to the examining room, weighing them, and providing comfort measures.
  • Prepare examining rooms for patient consultations and examinations by checking and laying out clean instruments, stocking rooms with required supplies, and collecting used instruments for sterilization.
  • Assist nursing and medical staff with physical examinations by handing and receiving instruments and supplies, receiving and preparing specimens, and delivering them to the laboratory.
  • Perform a variety of nursing procedures, including catheterizations and sterile dressings, by applying and changing dressings, providing colostomy care and irrigation, and taking vital signs.
  • Record observations and report problems and/or changes to designated staff.
  • Perform clerical duties, such as organizing appointment lists, films, and reports, and ensuring charts are returned for order processing after examination.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current full practicing licensure with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada, as per the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the British Columbia Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
