ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to Accounting Manager, the Project Accountant is a key member of the finance team, whose scope of responsibilities primarily is to manage and lead financial projects, related to internal controls, policies, procedures, contract budget management, credit card program and others.

Duties and Responsibilities

Internal controls, policies and procedures

· Create, update, and manage financial controls, policies and procedures.

· Assess and make recommendations to add or improve internal controls, financial policies, procedures, software and systems.

· Create and improve processes using a process improvement philosophy, such as Six Sigma.

· Collaborate with others throughout the review and revision process to ensure that all affected parties have contributed to the creation of the work and have been given an opportunity to voice concerns and share feedback.

Contract Budget Management

· Review funding contract budgets, financial requirements and timelines and create a budget tracking spreadsheet that is easily understood by Finance and Program leadership.

· Calculate the over or under spending in contract budgets monthly or as requested. Share the tracking spreadsheet with and present analysis to Finance and Program leadership to assist with informed decision-making.

· Collaborate with Finance and Program leadership to find solutions and strategies to ensure budgets conform with contract requirements and timelines.

· Prepare forecasts on program spending based on the program's work plans.

Credit Card Program

· Assist with management of the Bissell Centre Credit Card program inclusive of processing applications and cancellations, adjusting credit limits, maintaining agreements, and leading the claim process.

· Communicate issues, process deficiencies and propose improvements to the Manager, Accounting

Other Projects

· Assist with completion of the annual consolidated and departmental budget process.

· Support Finance team with completion of the annual audit,

Additional responsibilities

· Generate reports and analysis as requested.

· Provides customer service in a professional manner for inquiries (internal and external) with accounting related responsibilities.

· Join rotation for leadership of Monthly Finance Meetings

· Other duties and projects as requested by Finance leadership.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

· Degree in Finance or Accounting

· Three years to five years of relevant experience in finance sector

· Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, especially Excel

· Exceptional communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively

· Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to build relationships and trust quickly

· High level of professionalism with strong organizational and time management skills

· Excellent critical thinking capabilities to troubleshoot and resolve conflicts

· Excellent problem-solving skills

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Software Usage Proficiency: Intermediate Microsoft Office capability, specifically Excel and Outlook.

· Sector Knowledge an Asset: Familiarity with issues of poverty and Edmonton's urban core and knowledge of relevant community and government resources.

· Professionalism: Ability to portray a superior level of professionalism and adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality.

· Entrepreneurial and Self-motivated: Capable of demonstrating independence and entrepreneurialism.

Pay: From $59,740.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
