Health, Safety & Wellness Specialist sought to provide support in all areas of HSW, drive continuous improvement, and lead site expansion, wellness program, project management, and WSIB programs.

Reporting to the Health, Safety and Wellness Manager, the Health, Safety & Wellness Specialist is responsible for providing support in all areas of HSW for driving continuous improvement in all departments. This position is also responsible for leading Conestoga's site expansion, wellness program, project management, and WSIB programs. The HSW Specialist position also acts as a Specialist to ensure timely completion of continuous improvement projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing legislative reviews and advice
  • Conducting ergonomic assessments
  • Performing risk assessments
  • Leading hazard assessments
  • Developing physical demands descriptions
  • Creating visual job instructions
  • Coaching leadership on health and safety processes and programs
  • Leading H&S projects as requested by Health, Safety & Wellness Manager

Project Management responsibilities include:

  • Acting as HSW subject matter expert on department-initiated projects
  • Leading projects meant to progress the HSW team objectives as delegated by the HSW Manager
  • Researching and developing justifications for projects and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Completing and submitting Capital Expenditures to the HSW Manager
  • Utilizing Change Management tools and available Project Management tools in working with all stakeholders to detail specific project deliverables

Site Expansion responsibilities include:

  • Attending all meetings and workshops as the frontline HS&W representative
  • Providing ergonomic, process design, security, and material flow advice
  • Ensuring all legislative requirements are addressed in the planning phase and implemented in the final phase

Wellness Program responsibilities include:

  • Leading the Wellness Program
  • Reviewing occupational and non-occupational statistics to develop initiatives to reduce the risk of health, safety, and illness incidents
  • Developing and implementing Wellness initiatives at least quarterly

Site Security responsibilities include:

  • Contact for site security program, including keys, perimeter access, protester program, visitor and contractor access
  • Contact for all site security issues, including guardhouse, GA Locks, maintenance, facilities, engineering

Facilitating the Company's Early and Safe Return to Work Case Management Program responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing Accident Investigation reports
  • Verifying the Accident Investigation corrective actions have been completed
  • Communicating with third-party disability management firm on all aspects of case management

Enhancing and promoting a strong team and health, safety & wellness culture responsibilities include:

  • Enforcing all established health and safety regulation and safe work practices
  • Maintaining a visual presence in the plant assisting and identifying workplace hazards

Personal Development responsibilities include:

  • Remaining current with OHS and technical knowledge
  • Attending company required training
  • Attending regular 1:1 coaching/update sessions

Qualifications include:

  • A degree/diploma in a related field and a Post-Secondary Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
  • 3-5 years working full time as a Health and Safety Specialist in the food or manufacturing industry
  • Thorough knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations, CSA, Human Rights, and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act
