At SMS Equipment our Corporate Finance, Risk and Controls Analyst have a thorough knowledge of, but not limited to accounting, finance, audit, and insurance/risk management. In this role, the incumbent will prepare financial reports for management, review contracts and participate in operational audits and compliance. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Risk Management. Review contracts to identify legal, risk and commercial issues and discuss internal with operatives/sales/executives and external with customers or suppliers. Review proposals to identify risk areas and bring recommendations to the appropriate personnel's attention and ensure it is in accordance with company standards, prepare exception list to be included as part of the proposal. Manage the contract process including follow up with business owners to review outstanding items and revise contacted as required. Coordinate with insurance companies also including Mongolia/Alaska on insurance requirements. Respond to insurance requests from internal departments.
  • Projects and Financial Modeling. Prepare capitol project business write up, documentations on real estate transactions and scenario analysis on large model dealing. Prepare large deal write up packages. Provide project management support for capital projects. Assist SMS subsidiaries - Alaska and Mongolia as required.
  • Operational Audits and Business Process Improvement Projects. Identify the risks and control gaps in business processes and conduct research to provide process solutions and risk mitigation strategies partnering with business owners. Create process documentation which identifies key controls, mitigating controls and any significant weaknesses and assess the design of processes and internal controls for efficiency and effectiveness. Identify non-compliance issues in policies and procedures and propose practical and value-added recommendations.
  • Compliance and Testing. Manage the J-SOX testing process and assist in the design and execution of the testing plan. Maintain J-SOX documentation and prov ide communication and education to process owners.
  • Equipment Sales Support and Monthly Reporting. Assist in annual budget preparation for Mining Sales, respond to any questions from Mining Sales such as ones about FX rates and interest. Develop monthly reports with BI team and review with appropriate business units to obtain variance explanations.

    Qualifications:

    This position requires a total of 5-7 years' experience Finance/Accounting and a related university degree combined with an accounting designation (CPA, CA) and/or advanced finance degree and/or a finance designation. Additional qualifications include experience in:

    • Providing excellent customer service skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.
    • Performing effectively in a fast paced, multi-project, and dynamic environment.
    • Thinking and perform as a business owner.
    • Planning projects, removing roadblocks and executing projects effectively.
    • Project management, conflict resolution and effective communication.
    • Reviewing legal documents including sales contracts, purchase agreements, etc. for risk management and business issues would be an asset.
    • Computer software applications typically used in a corporate accounting office (i.e. spreadsheets, Word, T-value, etc.).
