**Job Summary:**
As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will be responsible for providing respiratory care to critically ill patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at BC Children's Hospital. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide patient-centered care, conduct assessments, and develop individualized care plans.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients' respiratory conditions and develop individualized care plans.
- Set up, check, and operate respiratory equipment, including ventilators and oxygen therapy devices.
- Initiate, monitor, and assess ventilator-dependent patients, making adjustments as needed.
- Administer medical gas therapies and provide cardio-pulmonary monitoring.
- Evaluate patient responses to treatments and make adjustments as necessary.
- Respond to cardiac arrests and other emergency situations.
- Prepare reports and statistical information as required.
- Participate in departmental and program meetings to share information and best practices.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
**Qualifications:**
- Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy and successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care examination.
- Current and continuing registration with the British Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT) and the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT).
- Current Basic Life Support certification.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of respiratory equipment and therapies.
