About This Role

CAE is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Engineering Director to lead our Defense and Security International's Systems and Software Engineering Center (SSWEC). As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for defining, bidding, planning, developing, and deploying custom systems and software solutions to our customers and collaborating with our D&S US team.

Main Activities and Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the D&S engineering leadership team and International programs to develop the vision and strategies for D&S International SSWEC operational objectives in alignment with the D&S strategic plan.
  • Functional Leadership: Oversee SSWEC team execution and program staff deployment, enabling systems and software bidding, planning, architecture, design, development, integration, verification, validation, and deployment of training products.
  • Operational Efficiency: Drive operational, technical, and financial efficiencies within the systems and software organization to improve productivity and schedule performance, ensure work is performed consistent with submitted bids, manage to technical baselines, prevent unfunded scope growth, ensure product compliance and quality requirements are met, and reduce common departmental technical debt.
  • Financial Planning: Accountable SSWEC lead for annual overhead operating budget planning and forecasting.
  • Talent Development: Provide leadership and mentorship to the SSWEC management team, evaluating team performance, driving talent development, and ensuring the future workforce size and skill mix aligns with program execution requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Close, cross-functional collaboration with the D&S US, D&S International, and CAE Global Products and Technologies (GTP) team.
  • Strategic Direction: Providing strategic and tactical direction for a large engineering organization.
  • Resource Management: Overseeing people resource management to support program schedules, business needs, priorities, and costs.
  • Continuous Improvement: Guiding the engineering organization in continuous improvement, using process improvement methods, tools, and training while driving innovation and standardization.
Required Experience and Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, math, or a science-related discipline, or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum 20 years of experience in positions of increasing responsibility with at least 8 years of experience leading large software and/or systems engineering teams.
  • Skills: Passion for operational excellence, organizational agility, and technology leadership; ability to effectively collaborate with all stakeholders – internal and external – in the implementation of the engineering strategy and the ability to lead through influence; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability and willingness to make impactful execution and operational decisions, oftentimes with limited information.
  • Leadership Experience: Previous program-facing engineering leadership role as a Chief Engineer, Project Engineering, Product Manager, or similar; previous experience in a functional leadership role with a strong understanding of business issues, ability to manage multiple initiatives at once, prioritize action and results, and inspire others.
