The Opportunity

We are seeking a Finance Summer Student to join our Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) North Atlantic Team in Copper Cliff, Ontario. This is a 4-month fixed term position. The successful student will be required to work onsite at our North Atlantic Operations Centre under the direction of our Ontario Operations Finance Manager. This position is Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week.

As a Financial Summer Student, you will have the opportunity to further your development by providing day-to-day support for various projects and initiatives within the FP&A NA team. You will be integrated in the development/implementation of policies and practices relating to financial and management accounting functions. You will get the opportunity to practically apply your theoretical knowledge of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in your day-to-day work in our great company. You will have the opportunity to build your professional network, gain transferable skills and obtain valuable industry related experience.

You will also gain an understanding of our company and the accounting policies, specific to the mining industry. Exposure to other Vale operations across North Atlantic will further enhance your development experience. In this position, you will:
Prepare monthly and/or weekly financial reports.Develop and implement spreadsheets, databases, and other computer applications.Utilize management accounting tools to track service provider spend, project completion, financial forecasts etc.Enter information into our financial accounting system with accuracy.Prepare data/analytics to provide insights into trends for strategic decision-making using Power BI, Excel and other internal systems.Collaborate with other FP & A team members on special projects or other specific initiatives.Conduct research and perform analysis. (i.e. quantitative, qualitative, statistical)

About You

Education:
Currently enrolled as a student in a finance related program, in college or university.
Skills:
Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Solid interpersonal and facilitation skills.Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerBI)Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
