The Opportunity

Our South Bow Operations team is currently seeking a skilled Field Work Planner (FWP) to join our Hardisty and Heartland Operations team.

Reporting to the Heartland Area Manager and supporting the Hardisty Area Manager, you will provide planning and scheduling of maintenance work of liquids tank terminals, pipelines and their associated facilities in Northern and East Central Alberta, 1- 3 months before execution. Work scope will encompass Pipeline Technicians, Electrical Instrumentation & Controls Technicians, Mechanical Technicians, Gaugers and Field Technicians for two Operations Teams. As a Field Work Planner, you must demonstrate independent motivation, and strong planning, coordination, relationship and communication skills to support safe work readiness while also upholding the highest standards of personal integrity and accountability throughout all activities.

Potential primary reporting locations include Sherwood Park, Wainwright, Hardisty, Fort McMurray or Calgary, AB.

  • Serve as a trusted partner who helps drive the success and cohesion of the local teams and broader Field Operations organization
  • Prepare the Heartland and Hardisty teams for safe and efficient work execution through the development and presentation of a robust 1-3 month maintenance work plan and schedule down to the technician level including preventive maintenance, technician training and qualifications, corrective work, capital projects, issue management support, on-the-job training and development opportunities, on-call schedules, administrative work and vacation schedule coordination in addition to maximum permitted overtime hours as permitted by Employment and Social Development Canada
  • Work closely with Maintenance Leads to optimize preventive maintenance outages
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Operations Leads to manage any impacts of break-in work or resource availability changes on the maintenance work plans for the next planning horizon
  • Enter and manage outage notifications for maintenance work in the planning horizon
  • Represent Operations in discussions with Project and Engineering stakeholder groups to validate and optimize execution plan outages and schedules for non-routine work
  • Develop and communicate a preliminary plan for all outage work, including identifying and developing contingency plans for critical path tasks, assigning an Execution Lead, coordinating and validating qualifications for vendor/material support
  • Strategize and coordinate material and contractor procurement for all preventive maintenance activities while prioritizing safety and cost-efficiency
  • Enter, manage and maintain overall accountability for purchase requisitions including scope, cost estimation and, where applicable, contractor/vendor selection
  • Solicit and action team feedback to provide inputs into work hour validation, work order and task package accuracy, maintenance plan trigger dates, and asset entity data integrity
  • Support the management of material inventory at satellite warehouses with support from stakeholder groups
  • Assist staff with maintenance management system training and provide front-line support for issue resolution and troubleshooting
  • Utilize strong change management, relationship management and presentation skills to identify mitigation and optimization opportunities based on asset maintenance plan changes and technical advisories
  • Monitor, collect, and report on contractor performance
  • Provide feedback and maintain relationships with local service providers while upholding company reputation in local communities
  • Facilitate employees' understanding of appropriate work methods, practices and safety requirements
  • Review and analyze work order and maintenance plan data to drive process improvements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Technical school diploma
  • Six (6) or more years of related experience or relevant post-secondary education
  • Two (2) years or more experienced in project management and/or work planning and scheduling
  • Proven experience with front-line operations teams, maintenance planning, and procurement in an operations work environment
  • Working knowledge and expertise with computerized maintenance management systems for work planning and information retrieval
  • Demonstrated ability to assess continuous changing resource demands and make suitable adjustments to existing plans with limited management guidance
  • Superior organizational skills
  • Effective analytical skills
  • Must possess human relations skills to effectively operate in a collaborative environment with a willingness to support team objectives
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work closely with field teams and Management, and coordinate work with other appropriate technical resources
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization
  • Must be able to manage rapidly shifting priorities and multiple projects concurrently, requiring resolution of complex problems in stressful situations
  • Ability and initiative to work independently, display creativity, and exercise sound judgment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of pipeline facility operations, Liquids Terminal and Pipeline assets and maintenance requirements
  • Additional industry related certification and/or related trades experience
  • Commitment to career development
  • Ability to achieve certification in project management

This position requires candidates to:

  • Complete pre-employment medical screening including drug and alcohol testing
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (a record) for review
  • This position will involve travel and overnight stays away from home (estimated up to 50% of work schedule during peak work periods)
  • Occasionally be available for extended work hours outside of standard business hours, and callouts as needed
  • Have current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including but not limited to Canada, and the U.S.
  • Travel across North America to other company or supplier locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training (estimated up 10% of work schedule)
