Senior Client Underwriter
We are seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Senior Client Underwriter to join our team. As a key member of our Property, Casualty and Special Lines business, you will be responsible for high-quality underwriting, portfolio, and client management.
You will engage with brokers and clients on strategic, financial, and technical topics, building long-term relationships and identifying opportunities to grow the business. With an entrepreneurial mindset, you will differentiate Swiss Re and deliver the full value of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and champion client relations across all levels, from expert to senior management.
- Identify opportunities with existing and new clients to grow the business and develop bespoke reinsurance deals.
- Perform end-to-end underwriting analysis for proportional and non-proportional treaty business.
- Evaluate and assess risks in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
- Negotiate annual renewal and new business, applying consultative sales techniques to identify clients' needs.
- Build and maintain a strong internal and external network, including relationships with clients, brokers, and industry associations.
- Gather and share market intelligence, attending conferences and market events.
- Anticipate and analyze future industry, economic, and legal trends, transferring knowledge and coaching colleagues.
- Contribute to maintaining a sustainable portfolio and enforcing a portfolio steering culture.
About the Team
The P&C Client Markets team is responsible for Swiss Re's Property, Casualty and Special Lines business relationships in Canada and the English Caribbean. We are an experienced and cohesive community focused on delivering best-in-class service for our clients' delight and our personal growth.
About You
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- 8-10 years of experience in the (re)insurance industry, with 3 years in an underwriting role.
- Understanding of the end-to-end reinsurance value chain and relevant market knowledge.
- Experience in the casualty line of business is an asset.
- Solid quantitative/analytical skills, underwriting judgment, and experience with risk selection/evaluation.
- Client-focused, with strong communication skills and ability to engage with clients' and brokers' C-suite.
- Advanced consultancy skills, coupled with financial acumen and relevant corporate finance knowledge.
- Strong negotiation and sales skills, with ability to handle conflicts and navigate ambiguity.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, committed to sustainable performance and continuous improvement.
- Excellent organizational/project management skills, with ability to manage peak period workloads.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in a team environment.
- Creative thinking capability and problem-solving mindset.
