Role:
The Rail Track Maintainer plays a crucial role in examining, repairing, and changing rails, ties, switches, and ballasts. This position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and ensuring a secure work setting.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Maintain CN's train rails, ties, switches, and ballasts through inspections, repairs, and replacements
  • Manage a variety of hand tools for assigned tasks
  • Replace defective ties, rail spikes, and anchors
  • Fix deviations in track alignment, surface, and gauge
  • Assist in the repair or replacement of power-operated switches, insulated joints, street and railroad crossings
  • Unload and distribute track materials
  • Organize used track material for loading
  • Ensure the railroad right-of-way is clear of debris, vegetation, snow, and trash
  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to CN's safety protocols
Working Conditions:
  • Shift work with occasional overtime may be required
  • Frequent travel, including overnight stays
  • Most work is conducted outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Involves repetitive physical tasks
  • Physical requirements include lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 70 pounds occasionally
Requirements:
  • Prior experience in similar working conditions or safety-focused environments
  • Operating heavy machinery experience
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Meet medical fitness for duty standards, including safety criteria
  • Ability to work independently, handle various situations, and manage stress
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Committed to meeting quality, safety, productivity, and client satisfaction standards
  • Exhibits common sense, good judgment, hand-eye coordination, and grasping skills
**Welding skills and knowledge of signals or Railroad Operating Rules are assets

The successful candidate will undergo a 3-week classroom training program, consisting of 40 hours per week. Training covers health and safety regulations and basic machine operation procedures. Completion of this training is mandatory to work as a Rail Track Maintainer.

This role is unionized, and compensation and benefits are governed by the relevant collective agreement.
