Job Description:

The Regional Underwriter / Underwriter of the International Trade Guarantees Team (ITG) manages a portfolio of Canadian exporters with the goal of delivering surety solutions that facilitate international trade. The incumbent is responsible for evaluating the risks associated especially with the exporter (credit, technical, contractual and managerial risks), and for structuring transactions (pricing, legal requirements, documentation, credit enhancement, etc.) in order to satisfy customer needs while meeting EDC's criteria for risk management. As a member of our Ontario Region underwriting team, the cardholder will work closely with their regional credit insurance colleagues, financing and business development through interactions with clients and financial partners in the region, as required. The ideal candidate will therefore have an ease and ability to develop personal relationships, to make presentations addressed to small and large groups, as well as to perform tasks with a high level of independence.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Support program performance, growth and integrity by establishing underwriting policies, standards and guidelines, ensuring their application, leading continuous improvement initiatives, product improvement and launching new ones.
  • Builds an established professional network (bankers and surety professionals) to strengthen and deepen understanding of risk analysis and the sector.
  • Evaluate the risks (technical, contractual and inherent in management and credit), especially those related to exporters, and have the results of this analysis approved in accordance with the guidelines and the applicable delegations of authority.
  • Structure transactions (pricing, legal obligations, documentation, credit enhancement, etc.) to meet both client needs and the organization's risk management criteria.
  • Work with various internal specialists to determine if a transaction is viable and mitigate risk.
  • Collaborate with various in-house specialists and collaborate with various domestic and foreign banks, sureties, EDC business development as well as directly with clients to determine if a transaction is viable and mitigate risk.
Job Requirements:
  • At least 2-4 years of experience (underwriter, level 2), 5-6 years of experience (underwriter, level 3) or 7+ years of experience (primary underwriter, level 4) or in financial analysis or pricing or in a related field, related to financial services
  • Experience in leading and supporting the completion of increasingly complex commercial credit transactions in various industry sectors and in international markets
  • Professional title of MBA, CFA, CPA
  • Undergraduate degree in business administration, accounting, finance, commerce or other relevant discipline
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in both official languages ​​(French and English)
  • In-depth knowledge of the principles and practices of underwriting and / or structuring financial transactions and / or bonding contracts
