Job Description

As a Design Coordinator, you will be responsible for:

  • Defining component design parameters using design inputs, including engineering instructions, design standards, automation, and reference designs.
  • Performing layout and modeling work (2D/3D) on components and assemblies.
  • Preparing packages for external CAD design providers to create drawings and bills of materials, including drawing markups, instructions, reference drawings, and CAD models.
  • Managing the creation and approval of drawings and bills of materials throughout the design cycle.
  • Providing technical support to external design providers, component vendors, and internal manufacturing.
  • Assisting in the preparation of a systematic project plan outlining the design execution strategy.
  • Participating in continuous improvement projects to enhance quality and reduce cycle time and design effort.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Technologist Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical technology.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in design, modeling, creating drawings and bills of materials.
Desirable Skills

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • The ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Expertise in 3-D and 2-D design software, with Creo and AutoCAD preferred.
  • Knowledge of bills of material, with PLM Teamcenter experience an asset.
  • Detailed component design knowledge of large synchronous and induction machines.
  • The ability to develop technical instructions.
  • Knowledge of common manufacturing processes, shop tolerances, and industry standards.
  • A collaborative attitude and ability to work in a cross-functional and diverse team.
  • The ability to organize and prioritize multiple concurrent tasks and priorities.
  • Planning skills to mitigate risks and pivot when activities do not align with the committed timetable.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to make fact-based decisions using data to determine possible outcomes.
  • A solution-oriented and pragmatic approach, with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • A strong customer focus.
  • The ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
