Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) to join our Transfer Fleet team at BC Emergency Health Services. As an EMR, you will be responsible for providing patient care and transportation services across British Columbia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care and inter-facility transportation by ambulance, utilizing critical thinking and safe work practices.
  • Advocate for patients through effective communication with colleagues, allied healthcare professionals, and public safety partners.
  • Operate ambulances safely, including in challenging weather conditions and remote areas.
  • Identify and address complex program or system-wide issues to enhance service delivery and patient care.
Requirements
  • Current EMR license or higher, issued by EMALB, to practice in the province of British Columbia.
  • Class 1, 2, or 4 BC driver's license (or out of province equivalent) or the ability to obtain within 6 months from start date.
  • Current driver's abstract demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Work permit for Canada (or able to obtain).
  • Strong mental resiliency and maturity, with the ability to function effectively in a dynamic environment.
Indigenous Cultural Safety and Diversity
  • Knowledge of Canadian colonial impacts on Indigenous people in social and health contexts, supported by significant knowledge of Canadian and Indigenous ideologies.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action, In Plain Sight Report, BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, and Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls calls for justice.
  • Supports team members on their learning journey, ensuring education strategy for team/department to implement Indigenous Cultural Safety at a practical level.
  • Works collaboratively with Indigenous teams/departments to ensure ICS lens applied holistically.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.
