QRRC Facility Maintenance

Quesnel River Research Centre, Likely, British Columbia Term, Hourly, Full-time (40 hours per week)

(May 2024 to April 2026)

Purpose

Reporting to the Operations Manager of the Quesnel River Research Centre (QRRC) and Director, Research and Innovation, the Facility Maintenance employee is responsible for providing a well-maintained, fully functional and safe research facility by maintaining the grounds and physical infrastructure (buildings and equipment) of the Quesnel River Research Centre located in Likely, British Columbia.

Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:


•Protecting the assets of the QRRC facility by providing scheduled preventive equipment maintenance, coordinating emergency maintenance, and responding to on-site equipment emergencies for mechanical, plumbing, structural, and electrical issues;


•Providing minor and routine building maintenance such as changing light bulbs, mounting whiteboards, drywall patching and painting walls;


•Snow removal and sanding of walkways and stairs;


•Providing fish husbandry duties, and attending to all aspects of fish rearing and hatchery equipment operation to ensure optimal and continuous fish health;


•Maintaining and repairing diesel and gas-powered trucks, heavy machineries, such as skid steer, boats, trailers, smalls engines, like lawn mowers and lawn tractors, marine engines, and large diesel generators and portable generators;


•General grounds-keeping, including maintenance of gardens, lawns and pathways;


•Operating powerboats and mobile equipment such as a bobcats;


•Assisting with fabricating materials for research operations, and assisting students and staff with research activities as appropriate;


•Maintaining a current inventory of equipment, maintaining equipment and maintenance records and vehicle logs;


•Assisting with distributing campus supplies; and


•Moving equipment.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following:


•High school diploma together with relevant course work. A trade certificate in mechanics or other field closely related to maintenance duties is required;


•3+ years of relevant experience in facility maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting;




•Demonstrated skill in a variety of trades, with knowledge and experience in the safe operation of powerboats, bobcats, and other mobile equipment;


•Demonstrated skill in safe operation of power tools, including various saws, pumps and other equipment;


•Must be capable of performing strenuous physical activity such as heavy lifting; and


•Must possess valid BC Driver's License.

Salary

This position has been classified at a Grade 11A. The annual salary range for this position is $86,299.20 to $89,856.00, and the normal starting salary will be $86,299.20 to.

Normal hours of work will be 8:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. Some evening and weekend work is required periodically, particularly in peak times.
