Job Description

As a key member of the Programs department, you have a portfolio management mindset and understand the importance of shaping the performance of your book of business through decisions on both individual accounts and the portfolio at large. In your role, you will develop, implement, monitor, and control a portfolio of Commercial Insurance Programs while maintaining strong relationships with new and assigned brokers and MGAs.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial - meet or exceed financial objectives for assigned programs and portfolios.
  • Develop & implement plans and tactics for individual Programs to achieve stated objectives.
Customer Management - in collaboration with the Commercial Insurance leadership team and supporting business departments, effectively manage customers to achieve desired results.
  • Effectively identify the top accounts and account profiles within your portfolio(s) and execute on growth and retention strategies with your brokers and MGA's.
  • Pursue and develop new Program opportunities with new and existing brokers and MGAs.
  • Develop and execute a strategy to improve cross and up-sell initiatives on your Programs.
  • Provide excellent customer service which meet or exceed service standards and continue seeking ways to improve operational efficiencies for your Programs.
Underwriting - effectively manage both internal and delegated underwriting processes including but not limited to; risk documentation, referrals, and audits to achieve outlined objectives. Oversee program integrity through management of underwriting audits and monitor the implementation of internal and third-party audit recommendations. Make periodic adjustments to underwriting standards and procedures accordingly. Ensure pricing models are in place and consistently utilized to support sound underwriting decisions.
  • Review submissions for acceptability, ensure proper documentation is provided and loss analysis is considered.
  • Underwrite new business, renewals, and endorsements according to Chubb guidelines and authority limits.
  • Refer files to Vice President, Programs or appropriate authority holder along with summary and recommended course of action for accounts outside of the delegated underwriting authority.
  • Provide necessary information to support staff to facilitate policy issuance and processing of new business, renewals and endorsements.
  • Participate in and/or lead appropriate portfolio analysis work to ensure that underwriting results are understood and consistent with corporate guidelines and strategic plans.
  • Audits - develop a plan of action to address audit recommendations and improve scores going forward.
  • Assume underwriting responsibility for the profitability of assigned Programs book of business and propose corrective measures as required.
  • Work with Actuarial team to develop and refine pricing parameters for new and existing Programs.
  • Perform various other duties as directed by the Vice President, Programs.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial P&C underwriting.
  • Completion of university degree and/or equivalent work experience.
  • CIP or CRM designation or completed CIP/CRM courses considered an asset.
  • Sound knowledge of P&C policy wordings.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate with ease and professionalism.
  • Strong decision making and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; including Excel.
  • Committed team player with ability to work independently.
  • Bilingualism in English and French considered a strong asset.
