The Shelter Support Worker plays a vital role in creating a supportive environment for clients. Key responsibilities include: • Monitoring activities and providing personal, practical, and moral support to guests • Recording day-to-day happenings and incidents using established methods • Assisting guests with accessing clean clothing and laundry services • Coordinating guest care related to security issues • Conducting inspections • Serving meals, snacks, and beverages • Performing janitorial duties as required • Performing other duties as assigned Please note that working in a low-barrier shelter environment may involve interacting with intoxicated individuals. **Hours of Work:** 32 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. **Qualifications and Education Requirements:** • Completed grade 12 high school diploma • Food Safe Level 1 certification or willingness to obtain • CPR First Aid certification or willingness to obtain • WHMIS Training and Universal Precautions Training • Alternative level of education and experience may be considered **Required Skills and Knowledge:** • Empathy for those in need and compassion for individuals struggling with addictions, mental health barriers, and other challenges **Preferred Skills and Capabilities:** • Completion of a formal post-secondary diploma program in a related field (e.g., Social Service Work, Mental Health & Addictions) • Successful candidates may be required to provide background check consent, clear vulnerable sector screening, clean drivers abstract, and completion of online Abuse Training and Health and Safety training **The Salvation Army is an equal opportunities employer and will accommodate candidates as required under applicable human rights legislation.
