About Us

Communications Nova Scotia (CNS) acts as the central communications office for the government, responsible for delivering communication, marketing, and advertising services across all government sectors to ensure Nova Scotians are well-informed about government priorities, programs, and services.

The immediate vacancy for Communications Director is within the Department of Economic Development, which spearheads government initiatives for business growth, strategic sector development, and community economic progress in the Province.

About the Opportunity

The Communications Director will be responsible for strategic communication planning, building public awareness of government initiatives, and content integration across various digital platforms, utilizing tools such as Content Management Systems, Social Media Marketing, Email Marketing, SEO & SEM, and analyzing campaign effectiveness.

The ideal candidate is a creative collaborator experienced in delivering strategic communications through digital and traditional channels, fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders to develop innovative communication strategies.

The Communications Director also oversees the delivery of inclusive, high-quality communications, mentors a team of communicators, and fosters a learning-focused environment.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Post-secondary degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, social/political science, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated proficiency in digital communication platforms including social media and email marketing
  • Minimum seven (7) years of professional communications experience
  • Proven track record in developing comprehensive communication strategies with a focus on digital and data-driven storytelling
  • Experience managing diverse audiences and competing priorities
  • Skilled in briefing senior officials for media interactions and events
  • Familiarity with latest marketing technologies for audience engagement
Assets

  • Knowledge of Nova Scotia's social, historical, and demographic context
  • French language proficiency
  • Experience with data analytics, human-centered approaches, and AI

The selection process includes a written test and presentation on a designated topic for qualified candidates.
