Assistant Physician - Kenora, ON

We are currently looking for a full-time Assistant Physician for our hospital located in Kenora, ON. Please note that this position will require the successful candidate to relocate to the Kenora area.

Full-time, permanent role

Role Overview:


Reporting to the Emergency Department (ED) Physician Lead, under the clinical direction of their Supervising Physician, and in accordance with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario's policy on delegation, the Physician Assistant works as a member of the clinical team to provide excellent, safe care to patients, their families, and significant others in a fiscally responsible manner.

The ED Physician Lead shall be the Primary Supervisor Physician for the Physician Assistant.


Join our dynamic emergency department team as a Physician Assistant (PA), where you'll collaborate closely with emergency physicians to deliver high-quality care to our patients.

As a PA your responsibilities will include conducting accurate assessments of emergency patients, ordering and interpreting diagnostics, consulting specialists and allied health professionals, and coordinating appropriate discharge plans.

You'll also have the opportunity to perform procedures such as casting, suturing, incision, and drainage, under the guidance of our experienced medical staff.


In addition to providing direct patient care, you'll play a crucial role in managing delayed and discrepant results of discharged patients, ensuring timely actions are taken as needed.

This may involve collaborating with community partners such as client navigators, outreach programs, and Public Health agencies.

Responsibilities:

Perform a complete and appropriate assessment of a patient and formulate a treatment care plan, including (but not limited to) admission histories and best possible medication histories.

Implement effective treatment plans that include preventive and therapeutic interventions.
Demonstrate appropriate procedural skills, both diagnostic and therapeutic
Seek appropriate consultation from the supervising physician and other health professionals
Work closely with all physicians, and the multidisciplinary team involved in the patient's care.
Accurately convey relevant information and explanations and instructions to patients, and caregivers

Qualifications:
Successful completion of a recognized accredited Physician Assistant bachelor's degree educational program
Membership in good standing with the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants
Certified through the Physician Assistant's Certification Council of Canada (PACCC) or National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Current BLS/ACLS
Addition certifications or accreditation is an asset
Desire and commitment to continuous education
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods in a busy working environment
Knowledge of First Nations culture an asset
