This position is located within a health-care facility, therefore, the successful candidate will be required to provide verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by a provincial health mandate.

Job Summary

To work closely with the Associate Director, Faculty Development in planning, designing, developing, coordinating and implementing educational programs. This role will require coordinating needs assessment tools, identifying and recruiting speakers and working groups, setting learning objectives, developing program plans, as well as setting up databases for recording participation, marketing plans and program evaluation.

The normal work environment for this position includes the Office of Faculty Development and facilities at Vancouver General Hospital with the option of a hybrid work arrangement. Workshops and events may also take place in various buildings on the UBC academic and clinical campuses. Evening and weekend attendance at instructional activities may be required. May be required to attend meetings/conferences outside of Vancouver.

Organizational Status

This position reports to the Associate Director, Faculty Development and works closely with other members of the Faculty Development team.

Work Performed

Program Research and Development

*Contributing to the development of programs to assist faculty and preceptors in their roles as teachers. Such programs may include workshop series, modules, or other one-off events and resources

*Develops and conducts needs assessment to aid in program/curriculum design.

*Participates in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of a faculty development initiatives to meet the needs of a variety of teaching faculty;

*Redesigns existing programs to better meet educational goals for the MD Undergraduate Program, Postgraduate Medical Education Program, and Health Professions Programs in the Faculty of Medicine ;

*Participates in the continuous quality improvement cycle for faculty development programs

Program Management

*Liaises with faculty members with expertise in program areas and instructional designers in the Office of Faculty Development to aid in the design and delivery of faculty development offerings;

*Manages program support staff including administrative coordinators;

*Works collaboratively with leadership, program directors and staff to support the adaptation and adoption of faculty development programs across programs

*Coordinates proper tracking of accreditation standards related to faculty development (e.g. documents delivery and attendance information, etc.)

*Participates in the development of faculty development budgets for individual projects and programs and ensures they fit within the larger Faculty Development budget;

*Responds to enquiries and concerns from workshop instructors, faculty, staff and participants

*Perform other duties related to the requirements of the job

Coordination, Marketing and Promotion

*Acts as an advisor and information resource regarding program related issues;

*Coordinates with leadership in the Faculty of Medicine to support the development and implementation of faculty development offerings;

*Plans, develops, coordinates, implements and manages event marketing, registration, preparation, implementation, follow up and evaluation.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

This position is required to exercise judgement and initiative in decision-making, which has the potential to impact UBC Faculty Development's reputation as a supportive unit to the Faculty of Medicine's educational mission. Confidentiality and sensitivity is required in dealing with evaluations of events, concerns from teaching faculty, and budgets. Tact and sensitivity are required in communicating with faculty, staff and faculty developers.

Error in the performance of this position will have a negative impact on the administration of the programs, operations and personnel, as well as the reputation of the Office of Faculty Development, Faculty of Medicine and the University of British Columbia.

Supervision Received

This position reports to the Associate Director, Faculty Development.

Supervision Given

Responsible for the supervision of two CUPE 2950 support staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of four years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Adult Education, Psychology, Educational Psychology or an equivalent combination of education, training and management experience in an educational environment preferred. Experience in program development and database management, preferably in an educational environment. High degree of initiative in self-directed improvement and willingness to learn about faculty development and curriculum renewal issues. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and have the maturity required to deal with sensitive issues in a tactful and confidential manner. Attention to detail. Word processing / computer experience required Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and literature searching skills an asset.
